Advanced Materials for Photocatalytic Applications: The Challenge and Prospects

Photocatalytic technology is a promising technology for a wide range of applications, including intelligent windows, renewable energy, biodegradation, and pollution management. Photocatalytic technology involves oxidation and reduction reactions aided by photo-emitted charge pairs under visible, UV, and solar lights. In this web seminar, Dr. Pham not only presented the advantages and disadvantages of photocatalytic technology and the effecting factors on photocatalysts. The fundamental factors affecting photocatalytic technology include the photocatalyst's physical, chemical, and optical properties. The optical properties of the catalyst directly affect the providing light source for the photocatalytic reaction. It supports the development of advanced materials with high photocatalytic performance, such as heterogeneous structures (Z-scheme, S-scheme, and dual Z-scheme). Significantly, the photocatalytic mechanism of the catalyst and the oxidative ability of the sulfate radicals were reported by clear evidence. This information gives the audience a better overview of photocatalysts and how to prepare new composites with optimal parameters.
